GERMANY: Sprayer RAWS – #Neograffism

It is a letter-writing, a kind of executed graphic bombing, which Kai Imhof creates. A mix of graffiti and graphics. He calls it #Neograffism. The Berlin graffiti artist may be better known to many as his sprayer name RAWS. Since around 2004, the creative artist sprays and paints works on facades and now also on canvases, shoes or even car rims. Graphic – Graffiti – Minimalism. These are the three core elements of RAWS conceptions. Graphic, because also with acrylic, because structured, with brush from the studio and graphically flat. Graffiti, because with the spray can, the more poached and released from the street. And in a minimalist way, RAWS combines graphics with graffiti and graffiti with graphics in his works, splitting up wavy forms and then reconfiguring them with linear objects. In the end, the name logo RAWS usually stands out clearly or more hidden.

TURKEY: Painter Ali Zülfikar – Terrified faces

Faces speak volumes. From the facial expressions and behavior of the people one can read very easily emotional expressions, but we perceive this mostly in dynamic movement. Reading a life story from an image is already more difficult. Here it is also up to the respective creator to design or record the whole accordingly. The Turkish-born painter Ali Zülfikar is master in this field.

LAOS: Basile Morin – Ambigrams on the 4000 Islands

During our Laos Trip last year we didn´t only come across the wonderful toilet graffitis, we encountered as well several other mysteries in the jungle and the Mekong scenery. The river island Don Det is only accessable by boat, there are no cars, but therefore bicycles and scooters. And as well there is the Baba Guesthouse. This nice lodge was our accommodation on the idyllic place, a perfect little paradise for relaxing. Above all it turned out that the owner is a French artist who is occupied with poems, pixel photography and ambigrams. And what´s this now again? We didn´t know the word either, but you could describe it as some kind of geometrical writing art.

JAPAN: Gully & Manhole Design in Japan

Japan is just an awesome country, we really had an astonishing trip. The food is fantastic and the culture has a lot to offer. We have been so excited about all this „Japanese-Difference“… we went some kind of crazy… I don´t know how to describe it, it was like a „Japan-Obsession“. All these exotic signs, the loony pictures and the heaps of wacky things, which we saw and experienced there. For them normal, for us completely new, strange and fascinating. After a while we just have been overexcited about actually EVERYTHING. We were enthusiastic about the famous Samurai sites, about the great architecture and the wonderful gardens. But then we went as well mad in photographing soda machines, street signs and even manhole covers. It just all looks so stylish. Probably it would be different, if we could read the letters, but without that knowledge even „Please don´t park here“ looked like an amazing artwork.

GERMANY: The OhOhOhs and The Oh!chestra – Classic Technoid Freakout

The OhOhOhs have made a name for themselves over the years as a live acoustic techno duo in Frankfurt and beyond. Whether through rousing concerts and summer festivals, on dance demonstrations or at funky parties. The show they delivered on stage each time was definitly worth a visit. When observing these two hyperactive music-geniuses while getting crazy on their instruments during a live concert, it´s impossible not to dance along. The trademark of the artists has always been to fabricate the technoid electro sounds completely by hand. So you have to be fast.

GREECE: Sprayer APSET – Visual Artist and Mighty Murals

Thessaloniki is a true street art and graffiti paradise. The streets, walls and houses are all over paved with scriptures, shapes and color. Of course, that includes a lot of smears and ugly stuff, but also a lot of high quality works. And in between, the huge and unbelievably good murals are shining on the facades of entire blocks of flats tower over the rooftops. One of the creators of these extensive city monuments is Stelios, better known by his artist name APSET. We met the creative guy for an interesting interview.

JAPAN: Grind Records – Osaka Vinyl Store

Today we have some more insight into the Japanese music scene and here is an article about a cool record store in Osaka. I wrote already about the Drum & Bass events in the land of the rising sun. In that previous article is an interview with the UNSALTED founder and organisator Munetoshi Maruyama or just Maru. For recording that interview we needed a place to meet with Maru and DJ Fetus, they suggested the place G.R. Café Terrace. First I thought I would be just a small café or a bar. Actually it is, but as well much more. The place is the homebase of the labels Grind Records and Undergrind. There is a record store included, a lounge where you can get several cocktails and craft beers and as well delicious food. They have cloths and streetwear, magazines and dj equipment and a room where you can get a bit louder and use this dj equipment, make sounds and dance. And of course there are heaps of vinyls and records.

KYRGYZSTAN: Kloop Radio Kyrgyzstan

We want to present you a new and interessting radio projekt of the Kloop Media Foundation in Kyrgyzstan which you should support. Ilona Pfeffer started with a lot of effort to built up a new online radio which went on air in 2014: Kloop Radio. Meanwhile the radio has about 60.000 listeners monthly and has a 24/7 programm.

GERMANY: Niko Neuwirth – Frankfurter Nächte, „FACING EUROPE“ and „Analog Frankfurt

We had the artist Niko Neuwirth in the studio at Radio X as a guest. A talented photographer and busy actor in the Frankfurt scene. Niko is a member of the Syndikat Artists, takes photos for the Landungsbrücken, is a studio neighbor of the Tanzhaus West, is currently rebuilding the Blaue Haus and continuously fills his creative photo series “Frankfurter Nächte“, “FACING EUROPE” and “Analog Frankfurt” with new ones works. OMAN: Sultanate Streetart

With this country we were really faced with a whole new challenge. Find graffiti and street art in Oman? … Hmmm … is there anything like that? First of all, we can say that so much can be found in architectural art and in a beautiful natural landscape. But with murals it looks more difficult. The whole sultanate consists almost entirely of desert and in the cities everything is kept very „uniform“ and regulated. Nevertheless, Oman is one of the more open and liberal countries on the Arabian Peninsula, worth a visit. And we still found some graffiti stuff, but then you have to look very carefully.
