SPAIN: Streetart Fanzara – MIAU – Museo Inacabado de Arte Urbano de Fanzara

The MUSEO INACABADO DE ARTE URBANO, or MIAU for short, is an extraordinary urban art project in the small village of Fanzara in the province of Castellón. It was launched in 2014 and the name stands for “Unfinished Museum of Urban Art” – unfinished because it is constantly evolving. Unlike traditional museums, the exhibition is open-air, with artists decorating house facades, gates, and walls throughout the village, turning Fanzara itself into a gallery with more than 160 urban artworks by 116 creators from big to small. And every year new works are getting added.

GREECE: Urbex Nafplio – Old Abandoned Myloi Train Station – Lost Place Graffiti

The abandoned Myloi train station is located in the Argolis region of the Peloponnese, not far from the city of Nafplio. It was opened around 1886 as part of the expansion of the Peloponnesian narrow-gauge railway network. With the progressive decline of regional rail traffic from the 1970s onwards, the station increasingly lost its importance and the operations were finally discontinued in the early 2000s. Since then, the site has been considered a “lost place”. Particularly striking are the stationary, partly heavily weathered carriages and locomotives that still stand on the tracks, also numerous graffiti cover the walls and parked vehicles.

SPAIN: Streetart Alicante – Graffiti and Urban Art on the Costa Blanca

Alicante is a lively port city on the Costa Blanca in southeastern Spain with a population of around 330.000. The city’s landmarks include the Castillo de Santa Bárbara, towering high above the sea and offering impressive views of the coast, the palm-lined Explanada de España promenade with its characteristic mosaic floor, and the 17th-century Concatedral de San Nicolás. ROMANIA: Streetart Arad – Citizenit Project – Urban Art in the Northern Banat Region

Arad has around 145.000 inhabitants and is located in the south of the Kreisch region and in the north of the Banat, a major industrial center and important transport hub in the west of the country. Worth seeing are the Palace of Culture on George Enescu Square, the Turnului Water Tower, the Red Church and the Orthodox Holy Trinity Cathedral. Of course, there are also interesting works of urban art here, especially the non governmental association CITIZENIT is organizing a lot of colorful projects.

Since many years Khon Kaen is hosting an awesome annual graffiti jam, where artists from all over the country and around visit and embellish the city’s facades with colorful spray can art. The events had several names like KHON KAEN WALLS or KHON KAEN GRAFFITI JAM, also different people and groups where involved during the years. PORTUGAL: Streetart Olhão – Fantastic „SEN-City“ – Graffiti and Urban Art at the Algarve

Olhão is located in southern Portugal on the Algarve coast and has approximately 14.000 inhabitants. Worth seeing are the impressive 17th-century Baroque church, Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora do Rosário, and the replica of the historic fishing boat Caíque Bom Sucesso in the harbor, which undertook a legendary voyage from Portugal to Brazil in 1808. Urban art enthusiasts will also find plenty to enjoy, as the entire town is covered in graffiti, portraits and murals, especially by the fantastic artist DARIO SILVA aka SEN, who has almost single-handedly painted the streets with countless works and even a whole old church. This is why it is often nicknamed „SEN CITY“.

Khon Kaen is a large city in northeastern Thailand with a population of approximately 110,000. It is considered the educational center of the Isan region and the Mueang Khon Kaen district. Worth seeing are the nine-story Wat Nong Wang temple on the shores of Bueng Kaen Nakhon Lake, the architecturally impressive Wat Thung Setthi temple, or the Ton Tann Night Market with street food, live music and craft stalls. Great urban artworks can be found throughout the city, some of them at high altitudes.

The Scottish port city of Glasgow has around 635,000 inhabitants and is located in the western Lowlands on the River Clyde. Worth seeing are the old town in Victorian architectural style, the Scottish Opera, the Scottish Ballet or the National Theatre of Scotland, also a visit to the numerous pubs is recommended, where you can often find live music. Of course, there is also plenty of color on the walls around the streets. The YARDWORKS collective in particular is constantly curating new mural projects and the ARTPISTOL gallery organizes open air exhibitions of urban art.

Cartagena is a port city with around 215,000 inhabitants and is located in the region of Murcia in south-eastern Spain. Worth seeing are the historic old town, the second largest Roman theater on the Iberian Peninsula or the Casa de la Fortuna, which is decorated with colorful wall paintings and mosaics. But there are also numerous gems of urban art in the streets and especially during the great MUCHO MAS MAYO arts festival various events take place throughout the city, also every year new murals get created on the walls.

BRITAIN: Bristol Volksfest – Long Ashton – VW Festival at Birches Farm – Urban Art & Creative Automotive

In 1992, the very first BRISTOL VOLKSFEST was held around a soccer pitch in Almondsbury, Bristol. Founder ADRIAN ASHBY’s idea began as a hobby, offering like-minded VDub enthusiasts the opportunity to display their treasures and exchange parts, knowledge and appreciation for the legendary vehicles. From there, it naturally evolved into one of the UK’s largest VW shows, attracting fans from across the country and abroad every year. As well as the cool vehicles, which are often adorned with airbrushed artwork or creative decorations, you’ll also find graffiti sprayers in action, creating awesome pieces on the adjacent walls with the BUNKER CREW.
