NEPAL: Kathmandu – Bhadrakaali – Dharahara Concept Mural Wall – ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS

In 2024 the KATHMANDU METROPOLITAN CITY launched an official mural program in collaboration with the NEPAL ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS. Artists were selected and commissioned by the city to paint these murals and a fantastic concept wall has also been created along Sundhara Road near the Dharahara Tower, featuring cultural motifs depicting the city’s people and historic landmarks. Additional works can be found at Saraswati Park or in the neighborhoods of Maitighar, Babar Mahal, Min Bhawan, Baneshwor and Lainchour.

NEPAL: Pokhara – Lakeside – Rolling Stones Graffiti Wall – Urban Art Alley

The Rolling Stones Rock Bar is one of the most famous live music venues in Pokhara, located on Lakeside Road. It was founded around 2017 and quickly became a central gathering place for rock music fans as well as for local and international musicians. In addition to nearly daily concerts, the space as well hosts DJ sets and parties. Graffiti enthusiasts will also find plenty to enjoy here, as the small alley leading to the entrance is adorned with several graffiti and streetart pieces. NEPAL: Lalitpur – Streetart Kupondole – Graffiti and Urban Art Collection

Kundopole is a densely built neighborhood in the northern part of Lalitpur and is considered a local residential and commercial area outside the main tourist hubs. In the streets you can encounter interesting urban artworks of various forms; especially the SATTYA MEDIA ARTS COLLECTIVE created two of its works here as part of the KOLOR KATHMANDU project and also several walls were painted by the former ART LAB collective, which meanwhile no longer exists anymore, but the involved artists have formed new crews such as TAG THEORY or the KOR ARTS COLLECTIVE

NEPAL: Bharatpur Streetart Festival – Urban Art Event by My Friend’s Hostel, Spacio & Nepalu

The first phase of the BHARATPUR STREET ART FESTIVAL took place from 8th to 15th February in 2026. However, this was only the pilot of this extensive project; plans are in place to paint many more walls, ideally at all schools in the city, and then, following a successful implementation, to launch the master project: The painting of the large Pulchowk Narayani Bridge. This could thus become the country’s largest urban artwork and a creative landmark of the city. This amazing festival project is organized by MY FRIEND’S HOSTEL, NEPALU and SPACIO.

NEPAL: Kathmandu – Old Monastery Thanka and Art Painting School – KUMAR LAMA & KUSFU TAMANG

In Kathmandu we visited the artist and art teacher KUMAR LAMA at his art school OLD MONASTERY THANKA AND ART PAINTING SCHOOL, and spoke with him about his creative space and the art presented. Currently 45 teachers work there and more than 100 students are taking part at the program. Also joining the interview was KUSFU TAMANG, who is an artist herself but also works at the art project. This space is an art education program that has been in operation for many generations.

NEPAL: Lalitpur – Chakupat – Mitra Graffiti Wall – Urban Art Gallery at Dhantil Marg

Along Bangalamukhi Road in the Chakupat district of Lalitpur, there is a magnificent graffiti wall featuring fantastic works in various styles. Especially the KAALO collective carried out two remarkable projects in 2018 and 2021 to support the organizations DIGNITY WITHOUT DANGER and DALIT LIVES MATTER. The SHADES collective also left behind a fantastic piece as a tribute to the movie Qala. In between are writing pieces, bombings, tags and streetart. Check out this great open air urban art gallery!

NEPAL: Kathmandu – Graffiti Thamel – Amrit Marg Collaboration Wall

In the northern part of Kathmandu’s Thamel district, there is a graffiti wall featuring some impressive pieces. It is a collaboration among several artists, including characters inbetween. The wall runs along the eastern side of Amrit Marg all the way to the intersection with Tridevi Sadak. Those photos were taken during the election day, therefore almost no vehicles were allowed on the streets, which means it was possible to photograph the whole wall without obstacles. Usually there are cars and bikes parked or street sellers around with trolleys and little shops.

NEPAL: Kathmandu – Dasarath Rangasala Stadium – Kanti Path Concept Wall

On the west side of the Dasarath Rangasala Stadium along the street Kanti Path in Kathmandu, a long mural depicting various sports was completed in 2024. The project was carried out in collaboration between the KATHMANDU METROPOLITAN CITY and the NEPAL ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS, which oversaw the artistic coordination and selected local artist teams. Work began in spring 2024 and was completed by late autumn that year. The long wall painting features various sports genres, but as well local children plays or traditional activities and board games.

NEPAL: Kathmandu – Streetart Buddhanagar – Babarmahal Snooker House Graffiti Wall

In the Buddhanagar district of Kathmandu, on Rajesh Marg along the Dhobi Khola River, there is a snooker hall called Babarmahal Snooker House. The exterior walls of this building and the adjacent ones are covered with graffiti; especially the PSD CREW was active here, as well the artist SAADHUX left a great character szenario. There are also some wall works inside, and streetart can also be found on other buildings along the road.
