SPAIN: Streetart Alicante - Graffiti and Urban Art on the Costa Blanca

Alicante is a lively port city on the Costa Blanca in southeastern Spain with a population of around 330.000. Iberians settled here over 7.000 years ago in ancient times, later the Romans founded the city of “Lucentum,” and in the Middle Ages, the Moors in particular shaped the cityscape before Alicante was reconquered by the Christians in the 13th century. The city’s landmarks include the Castillo de Santa Bárbara, towering high above the sea and offering impressive views of the coast, the palm-lined Explanada de España promenade with its characteristic mosaic floor, and the 17th-century Concatedral de San Nicolás. The streets are also decorated with urban art, from large murals to graffiti and streetart. These photos were contributed by the NOMADS ON WHEELS during their trip around Spain. Graffiti Libre – Free Graffiti

8th EASDA project mural – 24th January 2024 – Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny d’Alacant

On 25th January 2024 this mural was officially unveiled with a performance by students from the art and design school Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny d’Alacant or in short EASDA. The Alicante City Council, together with the San Antón Neighborhood Association and EASDA, developed the project „Culture and Community: Art Education in the San Antón Neighborhood“ to implement an art route. This artwork is the 8th one in this series and was created as a collaborative project between fourth-year graphic design students and local residents. The work on the mural began on 22nd January and was completed on 24th January. Several art workshops were held beforehand, and an estimated 100 people, including students, faculty, and local residents, participated in the project’s creation. Eight projects were submitted by EASDA from which three were selected as the most suitable. The mural was chosen through a neighborhood vote in which 68 residents participated.
