CANADA: Streetart Montréal – BREAKING WALLS 2023 – Graffiti Jam & Urban Art Festival

From 23rd till 25th June in 2023 the first  BREAKING WALLS jam took place in the streets of the Montréal district Hochelaga Maisonneuve. This non-profit urban arts and culture festival was organized by KOLORS, who are dedicated to empowering at-risk youth all over the globe through a variety of urban art therapy workshops and mural projects. The event also was supported by NBQ and STAY TRUE with equipment and paint. Here are the several artworks from the spray sessions, hopefully many more are going to come on following jam editions.

FINLAND: Streetart Tampere – Hiedanranta Art Space – Spraycankontrol & Meeting Of Styles at the old Katutaso Kauppa factory

Hiedanranta is an old factory area west of Tampere and a real oasis of urban art. Countless great works can be found on the walls and huge murals on the old warehouse buildings. In 2018 the event SPRAYCANKONTROL took place in combination with the legendary jam series MEETING OF STYLES and some works from this event are still there, but of course new graffiti are also being created regularly. SWEDEN: Painter FILIP REM – Multi Layer & Applications – Stokholmsgatan – Gothenburg

The artist FILIP REM paints an abstract world that develops piece by piece during his painting process. The atmosphere has to be right and it is all about a certain expression. Sometimes he paints over a work numerous times in different ways, adds appliqués or even parts he found in an old paint can. In the end, it just has to fit, and if it does, that’s what his feeling tells him. We spoke with the interesting artist in an interview.

NETHERLANDS: Photographer BART HAGEL – STREETART DAMSKO – Urban Art Map Amsterdam

BART HAGEL aka STREETART DAMSKO is a passionate photographer from the Netherlands who has contributed a lot of great material to the Urban Art Map of Amsterdam. An extensive archive has been created over time with small to large works of art, as well as galleries with countless photos of the super-frequented hot spots. GERMANY: Streetart Berlin – Schöneberg – Gleisdreieck Graffiti Area – Legacy Hall

In the Berlin “Park am Gleisdreieck” there is a 160 meters long wall which gets regularly decorated with great works of art. Awesome graffiti and characters can be admired at this area. It is not a free wall and you are only allowed to paint in consultation with the graffiti shop LEGACY BLN in Yorckstraße 53. Check out the fantastic creations!

ESTONIA: Urban Art Tallinn – Telliskivi Loomelinnak – Creative City – Culture Campus and Streetart Museum

Telliskivi Loomelinnak, or in English “Creative City”, is located in Tallinn west of the Old Town in an old industrial complex and is an art centre with galleries, small shops, various creative businesses, start-ups and catering establishments. The campus hosts more than 800 different cultural events throughout the year. Apart from that, the place is one big urban art museum and the walls are covered with great artworks, from small graffiti to huge murals. As a whole the entire Kalamaja neighbourhood is an artists’ quarter and is painted from top to bottom.

AUSTRIA: International Graffiti Symposium INDIGO – Presentation of the Vagabundler project

From 14th to 16th June 2023 the international graffiti symposium INDIGO took place in Vienna and we were invited to present our Vagabundler project! In the meantime, the videos of the individual presentations are online, including the one of us. In addition, a book will soon be printed with more papers, essays and contributions from the participants, and we will also be part of it. INDIGO is a graffiti centred academic project funded by the Heritage Science Austria programme of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW). Check out the video and the report.

SWEDEN: Streetart Gothenburg – ArtMadeThis Project – Drottninggatan Garage Gallery

ArtMadeThis is an urban art project that showcases female artists in Sweden’s cities. Especially in Gothenburg’s large car park at Drottninggatan 65 you will find countless works of art over 5 parking levels curated for the project. From paintings to textile art to installations, 47 female artists have left fantastic works since 2017 and more are going to come. Check out the great creations!

PORTUGAL: Streetart Lagos – Graffiti and Urban Art on the western Algarve coast

With 31,000 inhabitants, Lagos is the largest city in the west of the Algarve in southern Portugal. It is known for its beautiful and colorful old town with the historic city wall, its cliffs and its famous Atlantic beaches such as Ponta da Piedade. Also worth seeing are the Forte da Ponta da Bandeira, the Lagos Castle, the idyllic marina and the Plaza Infante Dom Henrique with the church of Santa Maria de Lagos. GERMANY: Graffiti Berlin – Schöneberg – Werdauer Iron Wall – Artist Gallery

In the Schöneberg district of Berlin near the Werdauer Weg, there is an old iron wall that is regularly sprayed with super nice graffiti artworks. Colourful masterpieces are getting created time by time during spray sessions. The metal, which has been aging for years, results in completely different and new effects compared to the usual concrete walls. Check out the numerous fantastic pieces!
