Paju is a city in Gyeonggi Province in northwestern South Korea with around 530.000 inhabitants. The city is especially well known for its location near the border with North Korea and parts are located close to the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). Paju is an important cultural and artistic center and the Heyri Art Village is home to artists, writers, and designers and features galleries, museums, studios, bookstores, cafés, and unusual architecture. Another famous place is Paju Book City, a large center for Korea’s publishing industry with publishing houses, bookstores, and cultural facilities. As well there are interesting works of urban art around the city.
