SOUTH KOREA: Streetart Gwangju – Baegun Street Food Zone – K-Pop Urban Art Gallery

Located in southern Gwangju’s Nam-gu district, the Baegun Street Food Zone was created as part of the redevelopment around Baegun Square. Once a utilitarian traffic area, it has evolved since its opening in 2022 into a lively cultural hub featuring street food, events, busking, performances and K-pop dance. A striking feature is the long wall along the street, originally built as a subway construction noise barrier. Today, it serves as a colorful urban canvas covered in street art, graffiti and Korean pop culture motifs, including large-scale BTS imagery. The connection to Gwangju is fitting, as BTS member J-Hope was born in the city.
