SRI LANKA: Streetart Matara – Cultural Graffiti and Urban Art in the southernmost city

Matara is the southernmost town in Sri Lanka and has a population of around 44,000. It is located on the Indian Ocean with rocky cliffs and beautiful sandy beaches, and the Nilwala River flows through the city into Dondra Bay. There is also a land connection of the SEA-ME-WE-5 submarine cable here, as evidenced by an interesting monument on the beach. Also worth seeing are the remains of the old fort and the Paravi Duwa temple with the former cable bridge. Throughout the town, you will find works of art on the walls depicting historical or religious scenes, as well as modern messages or abstract paintings.

JAPAN: Urban Art Tokyo – Shibuya District – Sticker, Paste Ups & Stencils

There are some urban art projects in Tokyo and you can also find legal commissioned works, but the administration takes strict and quick action when it comes to illegal graffiti, and the wall paintings are often removed or painted over within a short time. It looks differently when it comes about stickers, there are simply countless of them and entire sticker walls have been created in the streets. Here is a sticker collection from the Shibuya district, including paste ups and stencils.

SWEDEN: Urban Artist CODE26 – Abstract Patterns in Urban Space – JÖRG – Graffti Lettering – Independent Style

Discomformities with the rules, experiments with novelty and, above all, simply giving a fuck about the name. “It’s about how good you paint and how often you paint that counts”. The creative artist CODE26 from Gothenburg started with graffiti art at the end of the 90s, but his artistic range has since developed extensively and he paints everything from letters and figures to abstract creations. And sometimes he also paints JÖRG. Or whatever occurs to him at the moment and whatever he feels like doing.

GERMANY: Streetart Berlin – Prenzlauer Berg – Mauerpark – FLINTA* GRAFFITI JAM

On March 8th is the annual International Women’s Day and this year the third edition of the great FLINTA* GRAFFITI JAM will take place again at the Berlin Mauerpark. The acronym FLINTA* stands for women, lesbians, inter, non-binary, trans and agender people. The asterisk at the end is intended to include further variations in gender diversity. According to the meaning, the event is about variety, diversity, respect and equality. In 2022 and 2023 two editions of this fantastic event already happenend with numerous awesome artworks. BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA: Street Arts Festival Mostar – SAFMO – Graffiti and Urban Art since 2012

Mostar is the largest city in Herzegovina, the southern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the sixth largest city in the country with 113,000 inhabitants. Since 2012 great artworks get created throughout the city during the fantastic STREET ARTS FESTIVAL MOSTAR, or SAFMO for short, which is organized annually by the REZON ASSOCIATION. Countless fantastic works have been created since then, from large colorful murals to small filigree works.

THAILAND: Streetart Bangkok – Talat Noi Quarter – Color of Charoenkrung Project

Talat Noi means “small market” and is a historic neighbourhood in Bangkok adjacent to Chinatown. The area was the first port in Bangkok where immigrants disembarked and you can find several historic buildings around. Today Talat Noi is a cultural attraction combined with modern urban art, as the alleys and houses are full of colorful creations. Several galleries opened and regularly interesting events take place that bring even more works to the walls, such as “Color of Charoenkrung” featuring murals and installations by local artists and designers.

BRAZIL / ISRAEL: Multidisciplinar Artist ALANDER ESPECIE – Paintings, Installations and Macramé

The artist ALANDER ESPECIE is a sculptor, designer and installation creator whose practice of intensive work is based on traditional weaving and macramé with curiousity about how the search for ancestry and his own path intertwine. Born in Brazil and after having an art period with his design art, he moved to Isreal where he discovered abstract painting. A multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural artist. ARGENTINA: Streetart Mar del Plata – Don Bosco – DeInstinto Urban Art Festival – Transformation of the old Railway Line

The first international urban art festival DeInstinto brought more than 50 local, national and international muralists and graffiti artists to Mar de Plata. The mission was to beautify the abandoned organic railway line between Guido and Funes. This area from the streets Castelli to Almirante Brown got transformed into an amazing and free open air urban art gallery spanning several blocks.

GERMANY: Streetart Berlin – Tiergarten – Lützowplatz 17 – Hotel Berlin – FKKB – FREILUFT KUNST KLUB BERLIN

The FREILUFT KUNST KLUB BERLIN, or FKKB for short, is a unique art collective with its clubhouse in the Hotel Berlin at Lützowplatz 17 near the Tiergarten. Through the common thread, which is primarily urban art, it offers its members a supportive platform from which they can develop and exhibit new works. The Hotel Berlin regularly hosts art events and the exterior façades serve as surfaces for streetart and graffiti. Check out the great artworks!

SWEDEN: Streetart Gothenburg – Olivedal – Emigrantvägen 30 – Open Graffiti Wall

There is a lot of construction going on in Gothenburg’s Olivedal district and large building complexes and bypasses are being built, especially in areas close to the Göta älv river. Along a construction area on Emigrantvägen road a long barrier wall to the building site has been set up and this space is declared an open graffiti wall. You can officially paint and spray there legally. New works are constantly being created here and graffiti jams are regularly organized. Check out the great pieces!
