SWEDEN: Urban Artist SCEB – Abstract Jungle Worlds in the City Landscape of Gothenburg

The fantastic artist CAMILLA BOSTRÖM, better known as SCEB, has been decorating the walls in her city of Gothenburg and beyond for many years. Her works are abstract, colorful formations, often associated with plants or animals, and are created exclusively with spray cans. At least as far as the wall is concerned, because in addition to spraying, the creative artist is also active in other fields, she makes clothing or carpets, paintings on canvas and whatever else comes to mind. We visited SCEB in her studio in Gothenburg, a colorful place filled with interesting stuff.

UKRAINE: Graffiti Artist RUBAE – Train Writing, Urban Logo Art & Destructivism – One Hundred Wagons

The graffiti writer RUBAE of the LEGZ CREW from the Ukraine has been active with spray cans since 2002 and meanwhile specializes in trains, in particular the country’s typical green Kovalska class freight carriers. His book “One Hundred Wagons” was published in April 2023 in self-release with 132 writing works done between 2018 and 2022. We spoke to the versatile and train-loving artist in an interview about his beginnings in graffiti, the book, events, spray spaces in Kyiv and the graffiti scene in Ukraine. He also told us about the current difficult situation and how painting in urban spaces express itself during a war, whether it happens and how they keep on going.

GERMANY: Urban Art Bremerhaven – Fischereihafen – Graffiti Jam Wall – SUMMA MADNEZZ

The fantastic graffiti jam SUMMA MADNEZZ has been taking place in Bremerhaven since 2010 and brings together local and international artists every year to create a huge wall. Initially the event took place at different locations, but since 2015 the organizer and artist THOE and his colleagues have been provided with a 400-meter-long wall in Oststraße at the Fischereihafen quarter. The façade of a former shipbuilding hall is ideal for large-scale creations and every year amazing artworks are sprayed here by more than 50 participants under a specific motto.

POLAND: Streetart Lubin – Graffiti and Urban Art in the Wroclaw Outer Region

The Polish city of Lubin has around 74,000 inhabitants and is located on the Zimmica river northwest of Wroclaw. It is the district town of the Powiat Lubinski and is the largest industrial location in Lower Silesia. Worth seeing are the Gothic castle ruins of Castellum Lubinum, the old town with various chapels and half-timbered houses and the town wall with the Glogauer Tortur. Of course, you can also find street art, graffiti and beautiful murals around town.

Monte Hermoso is an idyllic small town by the Atlantic sea, with great sandy beaches and cozy spots to relax. The place has around 5,300 inhabitants, but even though it is not big, you can still find interesting urban works of art here. The great creative JONATHAN JOSEFSSON aka OLLIO is probably one of the most important artists and cultural connectors for the Gothenburg urban art scene in recent years or even decades. Not only as an abstract painter and sprayer he creates astonishing formations that can embellish a small canvas as well as a whole block of houses. He also masters letter writing and runs the great ABSTRACT GRAFFITI MAGAZINE, or AGM for short, but much more important is his constant and active organizing, networking and linking of artists, venues and ideas.

GERMANY: Völklinger Hütte – Mining Complex Art Space – Urban Art Biennale – UNESCO World Cultural Heritage

The VÖLKLINGER HÜTTE is a former ironworks founded in 1873 in the Saarland town of Völklingen. The plant was shut down in 1986 and announced World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 1994, as the only preserved ironworks in the world from the heyday of the steel industry. On an area of ??over 600,000 m² an exciting theme and adventure park has developed over time with huge lost place buildings and heaps of art, from graffiti to murals and installations or sculptures. Since 2011 as well the great URBAN ART BIENNALE takes place in regular intervals with numerous artists from all around the globe.

DENMARK: Streetart Halsskov – Faergehavn Graffiti – Urban Art at the Ferry Port

Odden Færgehavn, or just Odden, is a ferry port on the south coast of the Danish peninsula Sjællands Odde. The port is part of the Halsskov district, which stretches along an approximately 200 meter long headland or “odde” northwest of the port town of Korsør. There are some old harbor constructions right next to the ferry port and some old buildings and bunkers around it. These have now been taken over by graffiti artists and in addition to free spray actions, great jams have also taken place at the Færgehavn harbor crossing.

ITALY: Streetart Florence – Firenze Paste Ups, Sign Art, Stencils & Sticker Collection

Here we have a beautiful collection of small-format urban artworks in the capital of the Italian Tuscany region. Florence is best known for its numerous Renaissance masterpieces of art and architecture. One of the most famous sights is the Duomo Cathedral with its dome by the legendary master builder BRUNELLESCHI and a bell tower by the famous GIOTTO. The Galleria dell’Accademia displays MICHELANGELO‘s statue “David”, while BOTTICELLI‘s painting “The Birth of Venus” and LEONARDO DA VINCI‘s “The Annunciation” can be found in the Galleria degli Uffizi. But also on the street you can find great artworks which are at least on the same level!
