In the Bosnian capital Sarajevo the building at Obala Kulina Bana 11 is part of the University of Sarajevo. It primarily houses the Academy of Film, as well as the Faculties of Performing Arts and Educational Sciences. You can immediately tell that creative work is taking place here: the backyard is a small open-air gallery featuring various graffiti and streetart, and the front of the building is also completely covered with colorful pieces.

Stencils are found throughout the city of Angol, in the most incredible places and corners. Many of those stencils have a political connotation, such as those related to the International Women’s Day, which are scattered across many walls in Angol. There is a stencil against the Discovery of America on 12th October 1492. There is also an enigmatic stencil of Che Guevara. We also found a stencil against Rodrigo Hinzpeter, a former Minister of the Interior under President Piñera.

Busan is a city where art exists beyond the confines of museums and galleries. Besides several streetart and graffiti works, you can also find creative sculptures of all kind. There are abstract installations, modern pop up statues, funny figurines or traditional monuments. It’s an interesting mix and fits well with the city landscape, and often a funny statue on the corner gives a smile and makes your day while having a walk. This fusion of city, art, and landscape has a long tradition in Busan, ranging from the internationally oriented Sea Art Festival, the outdoor sculptures of the Busan Biennale to the UN Sculpture Park.

Skagway is a small town in southeastern Alaska with a population of around 1.200 and became famous during the Klondike Gold Rush in the late 19th century. The settlement was founded by the pioneer William Moore, who recognized its strategic location as a gateway to the interior. Before the arrival of settlers, the region was home to the Tlingit people, whose culture and traditions remain visible throughout the region to this day and are increasingly being honored. Colorful urban artworks can also be found in the streets.

The Milchsackfabrik in the Gutleutviertel district traces its origins to the former printing ink factory of Dr. Carl Milchsack. The company produced printing inks on the site until it ceased operations in 1999. As early as the mid-1990s, Peter Peters, a grandson of the company’s founder, began renting out individual spaces to artists. Gradually, the former factory site evolved into a cultural hub featuring studios, theater, music, and events. Of course the whole area is covered with graffiti, characters and urban artworks.

Vientiane is the capital of Laos, lies on the Mekong River and has a population of approximately 1.1 million. Founded in the 13th century, the city developed into an important commercial and administrative center under the Lan Xang Kingdom. Today, Vientiane is known for its Buddhist temples, such as Pha That Luang, which is considered a national symbol, as well as for its colonial architecture and Laotian tradition. Of course, you’ll also find urban art in the streets, especially in the neighborhoods around the Mekong and near the universities.

The HK Vukovi Ice Rink in Sarajevo is a popular ice rink located within the Zetra Olympic Sports Complex and is operated by the HK Vukovi ice hockey club. The modern, indoor facility offers both public skating and training opportunities for ice hockey and figure skating. To the north of it, there is now another soccer field. The area is surrounded on the west side by a wall covered with a variety of graffiti; there is also graffiti on the interior walls, where the KIDS FEST took place, featuring several colorful character pieces.

The PIER 2 art quarter in Kaohsiung is not only famous for its large-scale streetart murals, there are also numerous sculptures, monuments and installations. In addition to individual events such as the FORMOSA SCULPTURE BIENNIAL, a big regualr event is the KAOHSIUNG INTERNATIONAL STEEL & IRON SCULPTURE FESTIVAL, or KISISF for short, which has been held every two years since 2002 and is officially organized by the Bureau of Cultural Affairs of the Kaohsiung City Government.

Darwin is the capital of Australia’s Northern Territory and has a population of around 150.000. The city was founded in 1869 and named after the naturalist Charles Darwin. In recent years, Darwin has also emerged as a major hub for urban art, particularly through the ART TO THE STREETS projects, which promote large-scale murals in public spaces. This growing attention is also reflected in projects by PROPER CREATIVE or competitions such as the AUSTRALIAN STREET ART AWARDS, where works from Darwin are regularly nominated.
