Asilah is a small, picturesque town with around 30.000 inhabitants on the Atlantic coast of northern Morocco, about 45 kilometers south of Tangier. The town has a long history dating back to Phoenician times and was under Portuguese and Spanish rule over the centuries, which is still reflected in its architecture today. Worth seeing are the city walls and fortresses, the Bab Homar city gate, and the medina of Asilah, the historic old town with its white houses, colorful murals, and narrow streets. Several art festivals are also held annually, including ASILAH ARTS.
