With a population of approximately 320.000, Katowice is the capital of the Silesian Voivodeship and the center of the Upper Silesian metropolitan region. Among its most famous landmarks are the striking Spodek arena, the Silesian Museum, the International Congress Center, and the former mining site that is now a cultural zone. The streets feature numerous large-scale murals depicting the city’s history, famous figures, and local culture. In addition, there is, of course, plenty of graffiti and a wide variety of urban art works.
