SOUTH KOREA: Gwangju – Chosun College of Art & Design – Professors SEONG-MIN YUN & RYU BEOMEOL

The Korean city of Gwangju is home to one of the country’s most important educational institutions, a center of knowledge for innovation and creativity. The Chosun University opened its doors in 1946 and has currently enrolled around 33.000 students. All of the faculties are certainly exciting, but we are particularly interested in the College of Art and Design. We visited the different themed levels and give you an insight into this interesting world, where fantastic works get created on each floor. In two interviews we spoke with professor SEONG-MIN YUN for Korean painting and RYU BEOMEOL, professor for animation and comic.

SOUTH KOREA: Gwangju – CUMA – Chosun University Museum of Art – Exhibition „Expanding the Gaze – The Reimagined Campus“

The Chosun University Museum of Art, or CUMA for short, is part of Chosun University in the city of Gwangju and exhibitions of fantastic works by current art students and graduates are regularly presented here, including works through all disciplines, from paintings and installations to sculptures, textiles, films and animations. It serves as a cultural space and window to the public, giving interested visitors an insight into the work at the art academy and the artistic identity of the students. From May 14th to 30th in 2025, the best works of the current semester were shown as part of the exhibition „Expanding the Gaze – The Reimagined Campus“.

SOUTH KOREA: Gwangju – Juan Museum of Art – Exhibition „Toon Topia“ – GOLD, JBRAWING, SEONEUL & SOONBOMB

From March 3rd to June 2nd 2025, a fantastic exhibition was held at the JUAN MUSEUM OF ART in the Dong-gu district of Gwangju, featuring drawn animation from various genres and the four local artists GOLD, JBRAWING, SEONEUL and SOONBOMB show a selection of their works. The exhibition space is located in the basement of a café, with a commercial food court upstairs and a creative comic world downstairs.  It’s a small creative art space, but with continously interesting presentations, especially for mangas, comics, abstracts and graffiti.
