GERMANY: Streetart Oldenburg – Kunst aus Tausch – Graffiti and Urban Art Collection

With a population of around 174.000, the university town of Oldenburg is the third largest city in Lower Saxony. Worth seeing are the Lamberti Church, the Degodehaus or the former residential palace with its impressive façade. Of course, there is also fantastic urban art and local artists SBEK and ASCO in particular have left some great murals in the streets, alongside the creative work at their popular tattoo studio ABSTEIGE. „Sisi ni sawa“  –  „We are the same“  –  „Red Massai“  –  SBEK

„Sisi ni sawa“ is Swahili and means „We are the same“. The mural is part of the project Kultur aus Tausch, which means „Cultural Exchange“ in English. It is the fourth work in this series initiated by the local artist SBEK, in which he creates portraits of people of different origins. There is a small information board for each of the murals and you can find more artworks in the city like Keno Veith from Cameroon in Burgstraße or a Balinese woman in Ofener Straße.

An information board next to the work with the Red Maasai reads: „A young girl from the Maasai tribe is looking at us. She is beautifully decorated in honor of the rain god Ngai. In the words of her Maasai neighbors, she could be saying in Kiswahili Sisis ni sawa – we are all the same.“ The work was created on the basis of an image taken by famous photographer ÉRIC LAFFORGUE.
