The HIDDEN TREASURE in Bremen is the world’s first black light urban art festival. The artists work together according to predetermined color concepts, using only black and six blacklight colors. From August 18th to 20th August in 2023, over 50 graffiti creators painted the huge outdoor area at the Alte Werft at Stephanikirchenweide 19. As a highlight of the festival, the main wall was completely illuminated with black light at night, creating the largest black light graffiti in the world.
The 500 square meter main wall was divided into seven sections, each of which was covered by three artists in a team. The individual formats are approximately 6 x 6 meter in size and framed in black. The Extra Walls are located to the left and right of the Main Wall and also at other spots on the festival site. These spots are approximately 3 x 5 meter in size and are intended for solo artists or crews who want to paint in a row. The date for the next festival has also already been set to 2nd to 4th August in 2024. Also an Open Call for artists and participants started, more about that later on in the text with links to the application forms.
The initiator of this grandiose happening is PETER STÖCKER with his art agency LUCKY WALLS and the team around it. The organizers of HIDDEN TREASURE want to promote and network urban art on an international level with this fantastic event. Another aim is to bring international urban art to Bremen and enrich Bremen’s cultural landscape with values such as togetherness, creativity and connection, but also respect and considerate interaction. This is why an extensive supporting program of music, parties, culinary delights and creative activities is an integral part of the festival.
Some of the artists for 2024 have already been chosen and 7 teams from a total of 21 national and international urban artists will travel to the festival to create again a huge concept mural together. The basis for the artistic collaboration is this year’s festival motto 3D ODYSSEY. During the previous festivals in 2022 and 2023, the effect of the artworks under black light was already overwhelming. In 2024, these effects will be amplified by paying special attention to the 3D properties of UV colors. 3D glasses will be available for all artists and guests at the festival.
