GERMANY: Streetart Map Insel Poel – Baltic Island Art in the Bay of Wismar

The Island of Poel is located in the Wismar Bay in the Baltic Sea near the city of Wismar. In 1997 it became a state-approved resort, and since 2004 the municipality has been known as the Ostseebad. On the 36.24 km² area there are 15 individual districts, often these consist of only a few houses. A total of around 2500 inhabitants live on the island, which is connected to the mainland by a dam. Photographer and streetart hunter Holger Peter paid a visit to the Island of Poel and found several beautiful works of art spread over the area. The small and large murals often show motifs from local nature, fishing ships and the sea.

How does the map work? All the buttons on the map are links to a photo gallery of the spot, sometimes with only one photo, sometimes with heaps of photos or even a full article. The different symbols explain various categories of the streetart and graffiti artworks. In the navigation of the map on the left you can find the several markers sorted by the categories and it´s possible to hide or fade these layers.
