KUNST-STOFFE, the association „Zentralstelle für wiederverwendbare Materialien e.V.“ has been operating a redistribution center for waste and used materials that are suitable for reuse since 2006. We provide these materials as a sustainable resource for artists and designers, for learners and educators, as well as for the resource-conscious general public at low cost. The association cooperates with companies from various industries to collect materials suitable for reuse. The companies benefit in several ways: they gain an overview of their materials and can improve their resource policy. They can dispose of unneeded materials without effort and gain storage space. They support culture and education in their community.
The range consists of wood waste, cardboard rolls, paints, hardware, tiles, decoration material, fabrics, packaging material and much more. The range is constantly changing, so it’s worth stopping by. In addition to materials, users are also offered open workshops and studios as spaces for thinking, experimenting and production. In this way, KUNST-STOFFE supports the spread of repurposing strategies and sufficiency in everyday life. Together with educational institutions, we organize workshops for various target groups and support schools as a competent practical partner. Repair cafés and cargo bike rentals complement our comprehensive resource-conserving approach.
The association has also shared this experience at international conferences, festivals and meetings. In 2010, KUNST-STOFFE published a handout as part of an international cooperation, in which the experiences of the first few years are compiled. The association is in contact with re-use centers in the Anglo-American region about suitable materials and logistics organization. The association has supported the establishment of further direct material recycling initiatives in initial consultations, including in Hamburg and Basel in Switzerland. – Kunst-Stoffe
