The Brandmauer – February 2025 – Graffiti Statement before Elections
On February 23th in 2025, federal elections will be held in Germany at a time when the shift to the right is on the rise again in the country and around the world. The reason for the new elections was the failed vote of confidence by Chancellor Olaf Scholz on December 16th in 2024 after the break-up of the traffic light coalition. Due to these events the three artists TOMSTA, JAZZ and SHAW organized a great spray action on the concept wall of the 21ER GALLERY the days before to make a statement against right-wing attitudes, discrimination and racism. 20 artists took part in this creative campaign and painted fantastic works under the motto „THE BRANDMAUER“ to show that our society is colorful and open. Below is a collection of the pieces, clicking on the name in the title will take you to the artist’s subpage with many more photos from this or previous sessions. THE BRANDMAUER is an attitude and represents graffiti against the shift to the right. There are also many other works made by different artists from all over the republic on the Instagram channel, meanwhile from more than 21 cities with more than 121 writers. A „Brandmauer“, or in English „Firewall“, is a wall whose special design is intended to prevent fire and smoke from spreading from one building to another. It is also used as a synonym to contain right-wing influences. If you are from Germany, go vote on February 23th 2025!
