The old Buntfarbenfabrik in Flöha, or „Colored Paint Factory“ in English, was founded in 1878, but even before that it housed the former Strobel spinning mill. The industrial site has now been derelict for many years and has become an exciting lost place and urbex spot. Urban artists have also discovered this, especially the organizers of the great festival series IBUG, short for „Industriebrachenumgestaltung“, which means in English „Industrial Brownfield Redevelopment“. The 16th and 17th editions of the event took place on the abandoned factory site in 2021 and 2022 and countless great works were created.
The first IBUG took place in Meerane in 2006 and was initiated by the artist TASSO. Since then, the events have taken place annually at different special spaces, but one aspect is always the industrially dilapidated character of the location. National and international artists not only transform the location with streetart, graffiti and installations, but also incorporate the history, architecture and culture of the place. The works are then presented to the public at a festival lasting several days with music, parties, workshops and a colorful supporting program. Here is a collection of the works especially in Flöha from the two event years.
