On March 8th, the International Women’s Day, the great EQUAL JAM 2022 took place on the walls of the North Side Gallery. More than 85 local urban artists painted, pinned, glued and sprayed on the subject of equality and created a huge and unique open-air gallery for Berlin. In years of work, the GRAFFITI LOBBY was able to legalize the walls from the city for supervised painting campaigns. Since June 2021, there have been 13 painting campaigns organized, each involving around 7 to 15 artists. For the International Women’s Day, however, the curator EMILY STRANGE wanted to unite everyone, the entire urban art scene, regardless of ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation or socio-economic status.
At the jam the new large paste up art wall was also inaugurated, which MISS GLUENIVERSE and STICKERMAID designed with the active support of numerous other pasteup artists. Pasteup has since become an integral part of the North Side Gallery and you can now be curious how this subject and area will expand. From now on there will be reagularly changing pasteup walls at greater intervals.
Emily Strange: “A big thanks goes to LOOP COLORS GERMANY, who supported the 16 participating writers in particular with a large can sponsorship and black pranks and also made it possible for some kids to get their first spray shots. Thanks as well to Tilmann Häußler, who gave advice on funding via the Bezirksamt Mitte district fund. Only this way it was possible for all the other artists to paint the walls completely and to get the paint equipment provided. A big thank you also goes to RISM and the BETTERRUN SHOP for handling and issuing the can sponsorship. Above all, I would like to thank MOE 79 from the URBAN ART HALL, who helped me organize and implement the jam. We two did it! The jam showed me what solidarity can achieve. Not every artist named on the flyer took part, but many more participated not anounced earlier. Planned were around 60 artists, in the end nearly 90 came along and changed the surrounding colorfully.
