Kollergang Kreisel – Roller Mill Roundabout
This old “Kollergang” from 1963 is a very typical brick-making machine that is still used today – in larger and more modern versions – throughout the brick industry. The “Kollergang” crushes and mixes loam and clay, playing a crucial role in the preparation of raw materials for brick production. This roller mill is the namesake for the street of the same name in the “Ziegelhof” residential neighborhood, which was built on the former grounds of the Massenheim brickworks. The brickworks in Massenheim was a defining feature of the town and, with its 60-meter-high chimney, served as an important landmark in Massenheim for decades. This installation was inaugurated in December 2019 in commemoration of 150 years of Massenheim brickmaking history. The project was organized and funded by the Ortsbeirat (Local Advisory Council), Keraform Spezialziegel and the Strauch family.
