Formerly the statue of ERNST EDUARD UNGER was placed on the bridge as a kind of guardian, initially erected on July 16 in 1935 and created in the Frankfurt art foundry KOMO. A lot has happened since then and some things have been rebuilt, with modern residential and office buildings now standing there. However, the statue has remained in the cityscape, a historic and important artistic reminder of the city’s history. The river fisher and guardian continues to keep watch and will be preserved by being part of the bridge. The great sculptor ERNST EDUARD UNGER was born on February 17th 1889 in Offenbach and died on August 30th 1954, as well in Offenbach where he lived his whole live, where he studied, later teached, and where he left several other artworks and his creative spirit.
