The AL AIRE, LIBRES! event was a women muralist open-air gallery on the Monopol area which is taking place from 25th of September till 8th of October 2022. It is the first intervention at the new Monopol creative space with CARO PEPE, GAMZE, JU MU and ROMMY GONZÁLEZ. The open air exhibition was curated by JOSE AGUAD with founding support of DRAUSSEN STADT, STIFTUNG FÜR KULTURELLE WEITERBILDUNG UND KULTURBERATUNG, the scholarships holders from INITIAL2 of the AKADEMIE DER KÜNSTE and the governmental project NEUSTART KULTUR.

“Hey girl, how do you feel today?” This work of art intends to address the wide range of emotions a woman goes through while moving around in the public space. It focuses primarily in a dichotomy, wether the street is a friendly or hostile place, a playground or a battleground. Depending on the context, a woman can feel vulnerable, fragile and even threatened in the public space, (this being represented by the snake), but also empowered, confident and free (this being represented by the wings). “As women, I believe, we have developed a higher sensitivity to read our surroundings and finally determine: “Is this a battleground or a playground?” – CARO PEPE
“Moon, mujer, sun, road”. Moon, sun, road, infinity, balance, connections and more. All those subjects come together and create a story. Yalcin’s new mural for Al Aire, Libres! is a storytelling between absraction, landscape and future. – GAMZE
This is a mural inspired by women’s liberation, inviting women to decide for themselves and express themselves freely in public space without oppression. Women united as a sign of protest for the death of Mahsa Amini (22). Women cut their hair and stop wearing the hijab, against police violence. The power symbol of the moon has a special meaning. The moon represents our world of feelings and emotionality and is part of our elemental feminine power, which we must never forget. Closeness, acceptance, tenderness, sensitivity, the power of the unconscious, care, imagination, fertility and kindness. – JU MU
