The DOG SHIT SPOT skatepark and legal graffiti wall, or DSS, was created in 2015 as an idea to upgrade the “Wriezener Freiraumlabor” area and to legalize the DIY skate spot there. Together with the 1. BERLINER SKATEBOARDVEREIN, the open space design collective ENDBOSS was able to convince the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg Parks Department to allow the largely derelict former station site to be converted into a skate park. YAMATO LIVING RAMPS were also involved in the design and the Nike brand acted as financier.
The site is located at the Warsaw Bridge on Helsingforser Platz. On a compact area of 500 m², the DSS skatepark cleverly combines street basics with a flow park touch, all grind edges are made of granite without metal edge protection. As is usually the case with skateparks, the park’s surfaces are getting extensively decorated with graffiti, but at the end of 2023 as part of a renovation an additional graffiti wall was built on which it is legal to paint.
