„Akkord“ – In Memory of Maria Terwiel
This great mural was created by the artist duo INNERFIELDS in memory of resistance fighter Maria Terwiel, who belonged to the Roten Kapelle and fought against National Socialism. She was born on June 7th in 1910, in Boppard, was arrested in mid-September 1942, sentenced to death by the Reich Military Court on January 26th in 1943, and murdered on August 5th 1943, in Berlin-Plötzensee.
The artwork was done together with pupils of the Anna Freud School with support of the STIFTUNG BERLIN ERLEBEN in cooperation with the GEDENKSTÄTTE DEUTSCHER WIDERSTAND, the embassy of Israel in Germany and the housing association Gewobag.
In a letter to her siblings in January 1943, Maria Terwiel wrote: “I am absolutely not afraid of death, and certainly not of divine justice, because we have no reason to fear that.”
