Ikarus
This interesting installation was created in 1988 by the artist ANGELINA ANDROVIC GRADISNIK. Stainless steel, 480cm x 480cm x 210cm.
From 1989 to 2012, the structure stood at the entrance to the company headquarters Aero Lloyd at Lessingstrasse 7-9 in Oberursel. After that it was moved to the park and has been an integral part of the creative cityscape ever since.
IKARUS is generally regarded as a symbol of aviation. He stands for the desire of people to want to detach themselves from the ground and fly free like a bird against gravity; his actions were a role model for many visionaries.
The sculpture created by ANGELINA ANDROVIC GRADISNIK shows the outstretched wings of the mythical hero Icarus. The 47 stainless steel rods symbolize the international destinations that were flown to by the Aero Lloyd aircraft.
The focus is on Oberursel (Taunus), the former location of the company headquarters. Commissioned by the founder of Aero Loyd, Bogomir Gradisnik, in 1988, the stainless steel sculpture adorned the entrance to the company headquarters of the airline, which offered worldwide charter flights and domestic European scheduled flights, until August 2012.
In the course of the demolition of the office complex, in which up to 1000 employees were temporarily employed, the sculpture had to be relocated. The art-loving Oberursel family acquired the sculpture and gave it to the town of Oberursel (Taunus) as a permanent loan.
