Der alte Mann und das Meer – The old Man and the Sea – Summer 2021
The “Haus Lehe” is a socio-therapeutic residential home for addicted men and women in Bremerhaven and offers 26 fully inpatient places for people with an addiction. One of these residential homes is located here in Batterie Street in the Lehe district. The maritime design for this mural was developed in collaboration with the residents and staff and implemented after the façade was renovated. It shows an old sailor, Poseidon, Zeus and Neptune, and one of the best-known residents of the district also has a place here.
Heinrich Soltziem was born on October 9th in 1895 in Großen Luckow and died on April 23rd in 1967 in Penzlin and is most often seen as “Hein Mück from Bremerhaven”. He came to Lehe near Bremerhaven with his parents in 1904, where he did an apprenticeship as a ship’s carpenter at the Rickmers shipyard.
