On this small building right next to the Mauerpark, you will regularly find fantastic works of art by changing great artists. We divided the small buildings into 3 pages and each page shows a history of that part of the wall. We have the left area with the Blumenwunder Project, the middle part and the right area. In the following you can see the artworks on the left part of the building which is also the club house of the association Freunde des Mauerparks. On the front are works from NEWEN VILU and TRANSLARTOR, also an artwork from ALEAVE on the side wall of the building. Those artworks are part of the “Blumenwunder” and were supported and currated by LIEBE ZUR KUNST, a cool art project by EMILY STRANGE. She also contributed additional photos from the making of. As well big thanks to JURIJ PADERIN from the GRAFFITI LOBBY BERLIN who connected the artists and made this colorful adventure possible.
Project: BLUMENWUNDER
What: Changing curated façade design of the “Blumenwunder” at Mauerpark in Berlin
Why: The exterior façade of the “Blumenwunder” clubhouse of the Freunde des Mauerparks e.V. (FdM) is in a very poor, dilapidated and unkempt condition, marked by vandalism. It has not been modernized for several years. In order to improve its appearance, we are aiming for a recurring aesthetic design. This will serve to identify the building and enhance its value in the long term. We are therefore planning a recurring design in an approximately 8-week cycle. The artistic implementation will always be adapted to the square ensemble and will be based on both the historical value and the current function of the building. We also want to give artists the opportunity to legally design walls in various formats and styles, thereby enhancing and improving the public infrastructure facility on a voluntary basis. In this way, art can be made tangible and experienced by the public. The result is creativity and a positive attitude towards life. Such joint design projects are meaningful and enrich the social fabric and the cityscape and promote dialog between generations, residents and artists. It would be desirable to have 2-3 exhibitions a year in the Vereinshaus to match the respective thematic wall design in order to encourage more dialog and exchange with other people and promote diversity and access to urban art. It is guaranteed that no racist, sexist, anti-Semitic or homophobic motifs are used.
Who: The project is a collaboration with national and international artists, curated by Andrea Stöckmann aka EMILY STRANGE and her project LIEBEzurKUNST, supported by the GRAFFITI LOBBY BERLIN and the association “Freunde des Mauerpark e. V. (FdM)”. The motifs are found together with the artists’ collective and the local association, which is partly made up of Mauerpark residents.
How: At regular meetings prior to each design, suggestions of various kinds are made in the form of an exchange of ideas and the definition of themes and subsequent sketches. The meetings take place on the premises of the Vereinshaus with a small refreshment of drinks and snacks.
When: The project was initiated in December 2023 and has a minimum duration of 1 year. 6 designs are planned in 2024 on 2 facades (approx. 60 sqm) of the clubhouse.
