The KULTURFABRIK WERK 2 is a socio-cultural center in Leipzig’s Connewitz district and an important creative hot spot for the local scene. The building complex was built in 1848 as a gas knife factory and changed the operators from the engineering sector several times, until the association „Werk 2 – Kulturfabrik Leipzig“ took over the organization after the industrial work was shut down in 1992. Since then, the former factory site on Kochstraße has been home to workshops for ceramics, glass blowing and graphic printing, the Senior Citizens Computer Club, the „Society for International Understanding„, the Café ConnStanze, the Graffitiverein, the BetterRun Mad Flava Ink Store and several artists‘ studios. Concerts, parties and art events take place here regularly, and the Leipziger Cammerspiele uses it as a venue, as does the annual Wave Gotik Treffen and the Pop Up Musikmesse. In addition, the entire site is a large urban art gallery with countless graffiti and streetart works from large to small.
