The streetart festival COLOUR & SOUL took place in Braunschweig for the first time under this name in 2026, building directly on the two previous editions of the HOLA UTOPIA! – Braunschweig. From 27th July to 2nd August, the city centre became a space for streetart, graffiti, music, workshops and social exchange. The event is closely connected to HOLA UTOPIA!, which was founded in Hannover in 2020 and has since developed into an established festival for international urban art and hip-hop culture. While the Hannover festival continues under its original name, the former Braunschweig offshoot has now developed into the independent COLOUR & SOUL festival. It is organised by the non-profit association SOZIOKULTUR VOR ORT, which emerged from the association HIP HOP KULTUR.
The concept remains rooted in the original festival: large-scale murals, graffiti, street jams, workshops and music are combined with a strong focus on diversity, participation and social cohesion. The festival also aims to create a lasting impact on the city. Following eight large murals created during previous editions, three new high scale mural works were added this year, including live-painted canvases at Magnikirchplatz and artworks on the façades of the former Galeria Kaufhof building, altogether almost 40 artists. Alongside the art programme, visitors could take part in graffiti and breaking workshops, beatboxing, live rap, an open-air cinema and talks on topics such as diversity, respect and discrimination. The overall aim is to make urban art and culture accessible to everyone while creating opportunities for people to connect.
