From 14th to 16th August 2026 the North German city Emden became a hot spot for graffiti and urban art. During the awesome event HIT THE TROG the city’s Trogstrecke at Tonnenhof was transformed into a huge open-air gallery. Around 2.100 square meters of concrete surface were covered by almost 90 graffiti artists from Germany, Europe, and the USA. Instead of plain grey walls, a huge, permanent work of art gradually emerged right in the middle of the city.
What made the event special was that the artwork was created right in front of the audience. During the live painting sessions, visitors could watch the artists at work and see how large-scale graffiti pieces developed step by step from the scratch. Also several workshops were organized especially for kids and interested beginners. The fantastic jam was organized by the artists DISCO DEE and REK ONE, and was supported by the GRAFFITIVEREIN OSTFRIESLAND.
But HIT THE TROG was about more than just painting. The event also featured a varied supporting program with music, food trucks, and activities for different age groups. The weekend kicked off on Friday with a networking event for the graffiti scene, before opening up to the general public on Saturday and Sunday. This turned the Trogstrecke into more than just an art space for the weekend – it became a meeting point for artists, families, art enthusiasts, and anyone looking for a slightly different kind of event.
The theme of graffiti was also explored at another accompanied place in Emden. At the KUNSTHALLE EMDEN the exhibition GROSSE BUCHSTABEN, GRELLE FARBEN opened to coincide with the festival. Featuring around 20 works, the venue explores the relationship between letters, color, and imagery, showing how typography itself can become a form of artistic expression. Selected graffiti works are also included, creating a connection between contemporary art and urban graffiti culture. The exhibition was co-curated by the artist MAD C and runs from 15th August 2026 to 28th February 2027.

The entire 2.100 m² area is very large, and there are plenty of photos of it. We have therefore divided the individual spots across three subpages with the South East Wall that is around 160 meters long, featuring 18 artists, then the South West Wall with about 260 meters and 35 artists, and the North Wall with around 350 meters and 35 artists.
Alco creative children had the chance to try their hand at art on various canvas walls set up for the occasion; some of the resulting works were done during workshops, wich we want to show you as well.
