Exhibition: “Spaces and lost places”
Under the title “Spaces and lost Places” the works by the artists INGRID RODEWALD, EMMANUEL HENNINGER and HELGE EMMANEEL were shown in an exhibition from November 19th to January 7th. The event at the art space MUSEUM ALTES RATHAUS was organized and curated by the HEIMATVEREIN LEINGARTEN, which is the local history society.
The collages, paintings and drawings on display all revolve around landscapes and the influence of humans on them. Landscape painting is at the heart of the works exhibited by the creative artist trio. The actual motif is an action. Instead of the people themselves, the three artists deliberately depict only their relics – the landscape itself is given the solo role.
INGRID RODEWALD invents her landscapes while making collages. The artist, who lives in Karlsruhe and Strasbourg, uses torn pieces of paper from large product advertising posters. She puts the pictures together based on sketches. Abstraction and reality – construction, reconstruction and deconstruction alternate. RODEWALD‘s collages radiate calm. However, cracks and breaks in the harmonious compositions indicate that the idyll is deceptive.
In addition to the compact forms of the collages, there are also the extremely fine drawings by EMMANUEL HENNINGER. The Alsace-based artist and social economist explores his surroundings with the most delicate ink pen. He completed his studies in fine arts at the University of Strasbourg and in social and solidarity economics at the University of Upper Alsace. HENNINGER has developed a drawing practice that is part of a deep and personal relationship with the spaces of nature that he regularly traverses and needs for life.
HELGE EMMANEEL was curator of the Freiburg art exhibition “Regionale 21”, where the artist trio met. Coming from analogue photography, the Essen native, who studied art history at the Ruhr University in Bochum, began painting late. The artist, who has lived in Freiburg since 2013, combines both in his landscape photography. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s lines “As true and good as it would be to teach geography to children at an early age, I am still of the opinion that one has to start with the immediate surroundings of nature”, express the essential fascination for clouds, Water, nature and landscape, which have accompanied HELGE EMMANEEL since his childhood and are still reflected in his works today. His conscious division of the space available in the picture becomes apparent through the arrangement of clouds, landscapes and a few selected motifs. – Heimatverein Leingarten
