Im Vergessen des Unverzeihlichen  –  In forgetting the unforgivable

The personalities portrayed here lived in Berlin-Westend at the time of the Second World War. In the resistance against National Socialism they were imprisoned, deported and murdered. They represent all Jews and resistance fighters living in Berlin-Westend. Whether loudly or quietly.

The 14 people shown in remembrance are  Friedrich Weißler, Ilse Stöbe, Pali Meller, Oda Schottmüller, Richard Kuenzer, Libertas Schulze-Boysen, Harro Schulze-Boysen, Else Uri, Erich Gloeden, Dr. Elisabeth Charlotte Gloeden, Julius Magnus, Henriette Gottlieb, Dr. Theodor Haubach and Hildegard Margis.


Friedrich Weißler

Friedrich Weißler was born in 1891 and arrested for betraying secrets on February 13th in 1937. He was murdered in Sachsenhausen on February 19th in 1937. He lived at Meiningenallee 7 in Berlin-Westend.


Ilse Stöbe

Ilse Stöbe was born in 1911 and was arrested in the resistance “Rote Kapelle” (=”Red Chapel”) on September 12th in 1942 and executed on December 22nd in 1942 in Berlin-Plötzensee. She lived at Ahornallee 48 in Berlin-Westend.


Pali Meller

Pali Meller was born in 1902 and was arrested for forgery on September 3, 1942. Initially incarcerated in Berlin-Plötzensee, he was sent to Brandenburg Penitentiary in 1943 and murdered on March 31st in 1943. He lived at Knobelsdorffstrasse 110 in Berlin-Westend.



Oda Schottmüller

Oda Schottmüller was born in 1875 and was arrested in the resistance “Rote Kapelle” (=”Red Chapel”) on September 16th in 1942. She received her death sentence in Alexanderplatz prison on January 26th in 1943, and was executed in Berlin Plötzensee on August 5th in 1943. She lived at Reichsstraße 16 in Berlin-Westend.


Richard Kuenzer

Richard Kuenzer was born in 1875 and was arrested in the resistance on July 5th in 1943. As part of “Aktion Gitter” he was sent to Ravensbrück concentration camp in 1944 and was murdered in Lehrter Strasse prison on April 3rd in 1945. He lived at Ulmenallee 29 in Berlin-Westend.



Libertas Schulze-Boysen

Libertas Schulze-Boysen was born in 1913 and executed in Berlin-Plötzensee on December 22nd in 1942. He was in the resistance group “Rote Kapelle” (=”Red Chapel”) and lived at Altenburger Allee 19 in Berlin-Westend.



Harro Schulze-Boysen

Harro Schulze-Boysen was born in 1909 and executed in Berlin-Plötzensee on December 22nd in 1942. He was in the resistance group “Rote Kapelle” (=”Red Chapel”) and lived at Altenburger Allee 19 in Berlin-Westend.


Else Uri

Else Uri was born in 1877 and was disenfranchised and deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau on January 12th in 1943. On January 13th in 1943, she was driven off the train’s ramp into the gas chamber and murdered. She lived at Kaiserdamm 24 in Berlin-Westend.



Erich Gloeden

Erich Gloeden was born in 1888 and arrested in the resistance on September 3rd in 1944. On November 30th in 1944, he was executed in Plötzensee prison. He lived at Kastanienallee 23 in Berlin-Westend.


Dr. Elisabeth Charlotte Gloeden

Dr. Elisabeth Charlotte Gloeden, née Kusnitzky, was born in 1903 and arrested in the resistance on September 3rd in 1944. She was executed in Plötzensee prison on November 30th in 1944. She lived at Kastanienallee 23 in Berlin-Westend.



Julius Magnus

Julius Magnus was born in 1867 and fled to Holland in 1939. He was interned in Westerbrok and taken to Bergen Belsen on September 14th in 1943. In 1944 he was taken to Teresienstadt and murdered on May 15th in 1944. He lived at Meerscheidstraße 13 in Berlin-Westend.


Henriette Gottlieb

Henriette Gottlieb, married Huth, was born in 1884 and deported to Lodz-Litzmannstadt with her husband on October 24th in 1941. She was murdered on January 2nd in 1942. She lived at Kaiserdamm 84 in Berlin-Westend.


Dr. Theodor Haubach

Dr. Theodor Haubach was born in 1896 and was arrested several times during the resistance, the last time in 1944. On January 23rd in 1945 he was executed in Berlin-Plötzensee. He lived at Falterweg 11 in Berlin-Westend.


Hildegard Margis

Hildegard Margis, née Beck, was born in 1887 and arrested in the resistance on September 18, 1944. She died in the Barnimstraße women’s prison on September 30, 1944. She lived at Lyckallee 28 in Berlin-Westend.

An artistic homage to fourteen personalities who lived in Berlin Westend during the Second World War and who gave their lives in the resistance against National Socialism. Representative for all Jews or resistance fighters living in Berlin Westend, whether loud or quiet. My project in collaboration with “Deutsche Bahn AG”, Berlin Westend based on my play of the same name “In Forgetting the Unforgivable. Dimenticando L’Imperdonabile”.
