On the facades of the “Jugendlclub Eastside” you can find numerous great urban artworks made by the artists AGE AGE, THE FLY, HAEVI, HUGO and more. The decorative paint session was organized by artist MARKUS BÜLOW aka FREAKSCHMERZ. The youth club has existed since the 1980s, but at that time it had a different name, a different location and different offers. Until 1992 it was called FE’ and was located on the B1 in the service cube by the pedestrian bridge.
In 1992 the club was given the name “Eastside” and in August 2003 they moved to Volkrad Street 6 together with the “Hohenschönhausen Ceramic Center”. Volkrad Street is located in the neighborhood between the Alt-Friedrichsfelde and Tierpark areas. The facility can be reached by subway (Friedrichsfelde station) or by bus (296, 194, 396). You really can’t miss the big blue house, which is decorated with fantastic colorful artworks.
The club has a large garden with a streetball facility, climbing wall, raised beds and a huge terrace. The house has a floor area of approx. 350 square meters, which is divided into 2 floors and 4 areas. The areas are divided into the open area, the ceramics area, the multimedia area and the creative children’s area. There are 9 rooms available for children and young people to spend their free time.
The facilities are divided into 3 main groups: Creative Offers, Media Offers and Sports Offers. The creative offers include: handicrafts, painting, working with wood and other natural materials, basket weaving, encaustic work, silk painting, modeling with plaster, clay, plasticine and Fimo, making jewelry and candles, window color work and much more.
The media offers include: working on the computer – playing games, writing applications and CVs, working with various programs (Excel, image processing programs, painting programs, etc.), surfing, chatting, creating a homepage, video work, video shooting, editing videos and various console games.
The sport offers include: table tennis, billiards, table football, darts, air hockey, football, streetball Cultural events such as: disco, summer party, Halloween party, Christmas party, visits to the cinema, visits to museums, etc. They also carry out special projects such as: Addiction Prevention Projects – Girls projects, professional workshop projects and sports projects. – Jugendclub Eastside

Information from MARKUS BÜLOW about the artworks around the youth club: “The lettering EASTSIDE on the street side at the top of the wall was designed by an unknown young person during community service. The lettering EASTSIDE next to the Robocop and the paler cartoon characters were designed by friends of a former intern at the club. I allowed two young people from the club to let off steam doing the various small jobs on the back with the Bart Simpson. The artworks around the “Grillyard” are made by me.”
