The Wilderers – 2019
This mural was commissioned by the City of Hildesheim and created in collaboration with artists from ATELIER WILDERERS under the direction of OLE GÖRGENS from SPRÜHWERK in February 2020. The inclusive studio is organized by proTeam Himmelsthür, which is committed to social, regional, and environmental causes for people with and without assistance needs. With a wide range of opportunities in diverse professional fields, the organization offers individualized training and ongoing development prospects. Its mission is “Lifelong Learning!”.
Overall, the building at Steingrube 19A serves as a learning center and a creative hub, as it also houses the Begegnungs- und Kompetenzzentrum Hi.punkt, in English „Hi.punkt Community and Competence Center“, the Evangelische Bildungsstätte Hildesheim, in English „Evangelical Educational Center Hildesheim“, and the Gesellschaft für beruflliche Bildung Hildesheim, in English „Hildesheim Association for Vocational Education“, or GGBH for short.
The artwork is as well part of the NORDSTADT WANDGALERIE, which is a project of the KULTURFABRIK LÖSEKE. From 2017 till 2020, facades, walls, and smaller surfaces in Hildesheim’s Nordstadt district have been artistically designed under annually changing themes. The project sees itself as an incentive and a platform for exchange, as residents of the Nordstadt district and professional artists collaborate on the creative process of art in public spaces. Hildesheim’s Nordstadt thus becomes a place of communal encounter and a place where communication, active participation, and identification with one’s own living environment are possible.
After the NORDSTADT WANDGALERIE launched in 2017 with the “Beautiful People” project, the second project, “Fabelhaft – Fabulous,” enriched the gallery with additional works of art in 2018. In 2019, the focus was on „Innensichten“, or in English “Inner Views”.
The organizers about the mural: The artwork is an abstract representation of the city of Hildesheim. It depicts its iconic landmarks, such as the Temple House and St. Michael’s Church (in the center of the image), as well as aspects of its history, myths, and legends. The artwork was created through a collaboration between Ole Görgens and the Wilderer Studio. The studio is a facility of the pro Werkstätten of the Diakonie Himmelsthür. – Hildesheim Tourismus
