„Fabelhaft – Fabulous“ – 2018
The NORDSTADT WANDGALERIE is a project of the KULTURFABRIK LÖSEKE. From 2017 till 2020, facades, walls, and smaller surfaces in Hildesheim’s Nordstadt district have been artistically designed under annually changing themes. The project sees itself as an incentive and a platform for exchange, as residents of the Nordstadt district and professional artists collaborate on the creative process of art in public spaces. Hildesheim’s Nordstadt thus becomes a place of communal encounter and a place where communication, active participation, and identification with one’s own living environment are possible.
After the NORDSTADT WANDGALERIE launched in 2017 with the “Beautiful People” project, the second project, “Fabelhaft – Fabulous,” enriched the gallery with additional works of art in 2018. In 2019, the focus was on „Innensichten“, or in English “Inner Views” and in 2020 the topic was „Werte“ or in English „Values“. This mural was made in 2018, in total four additional building facades were decorated with fantastical creatures as part of the “Fabelhaft – Fabulous” theme for that year. For the design, over 300 drawings were created in numerous workshops for children and adults, with and without special needs, under the theme of favorite and imaginary animals. Street artists transformed these drawings into colors and shapes or created artworks inspired by the originals.
The two artists drew inspiration from the drawings created by the project participants and collaborated on the design of the building’s facade. HERBIRD GRÖHLEMEYER developed the basic composition, while CHRISTIAN MÜLLER handled the finer details and color scheme. They have dedicated the resulting artwork to future generations of Nordstadt. – Hildesheim Tourismus
