Superheroes – 2017
The NORDSTADT WANDGALERIE is a project of the KULTURFABRIK LÖSEKE. From 2017 till 2020, facades, walls, and smaller surfaces in Hildesheim’s Nordstadt district have been artistically designed under annually changing themes. The project sees itself as an incentive and a platform for exchange, as residents of the Nordstadt district and professional artists collaborate on the creative process of art in public spaces. Hildesheim’s Nordstadt thus becomes a place of communal encounter and a place where communication, active participation, and identification with one’s own living environment are possible. After the NORDSTADT WANDGALERIE launched in 2017 with the “Beautiful People” project, the second project, “Fabelhaft – Fabulous,” enriched the gallery with additional works of art in 2018. In 2019, the focus was on „Innensichten“, or in English “Inner Views”. The last project, titled “Werte”, or “Values” in English, took place in 2020 and explored themes of the thirst for knowledge, culture, creativity, and wisdom. As part of the project, various electrical boxes and two building facades in the Nordstadt district were decorated.
This great comic mural by OLE GÖRGENS and JAN HEIDEMANN is part of the first edition of the project. With the theme “Beautiful People” it was launched in 2017, and it is a tribute to people who have a positive influence on the residents of Nordstadt. It doesn’t matter whether the residents know them personally or have only encountered them in fictional stories or on television. Besides this artwork here, their stories have been immortalized on a total of four building facades and help to bring the values of Nordstadt’s residents into the neighborhood.
A superhero comic featuring figures like Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, and Marie Curie – people who achieved great things through their actions and became unforgettable heroes without any supernatural powers. Nina Hagen, Bruce Lee, Lemmy Kilmister, Christina Aguilera, and the Turkish poet Nâzim Hikmet are also important role models for the residents of the northern part of the city and are immortalized here.
