Krümmelmonster Graffiti – Cookie Monster Graffiti
This magnificent work of art is an allusion to the theft of the logo sign with a golden cookie from the local Bahlsen cookie factory. On January 29th in 2013, a blackmail letter was received by the Bahlsen company after previously its emblem at the headquarters in Hannover had disappeared. This was a plate in form of a large, gold-colored butter cookie. The letter was signed with “Krümelmonster”, which is the German name for the Cookie Monster from Sesame Street. A photo of a person in a Cookie Monster costume biting into the gold-plated brass cookie weighing around 20 kilograms was sent along as proof. It had previously hung between two so-called pretzel men on the building in Podbielski Street at the company’s headquarters in Hannover for around 100 years. In the letter, Bahlsen was asked to supply all wards in the children’s hospital in the Bult district with cookies and to donate the called reward of 1,000 Euros to the Krähenwinkel animal shelter in Langenhagen. Otherwise the cookie would end up in Oscar’s garbage can, who is the green and grumpy puppet friend who lives in a trash bin at Sesame Street.
