The location of the old flood protection wall on the “Bostelbeker Hauptdeich” east of “Moorburger Straße” in the Harburg district of Hamburg consists of two concrete walls up to five meters high, separated by a classic earth dam (“Deich”). Since both sides of the wall are used for spraying, there are four sub-locations. The division into four individual locations is due to the legal situation and also to the qualitative differences between the pieces.

1) Flood Protection Wall – Western Section – North Side: 320 meter long from (53.47058, 9.96259) to (53.47006, 9.96672) aside An der Landscheide. This area tends to be used by amateurs and talented beginners. The further east you go, the better the pieces and styles become. [ >>> Chronological Spot Page <<< }

(2) Flood Protection Wall – Western section – South side: 320 meter long from (53.47058, 9.96259) to (53.47006, 9.96672) aside Bostelbeker Deich. This area is not legal, but was used in the eastern area for some low-quality pieces. [ >>> Chronological Spot Page <<< }

(3) Flood Protection Wall – Eastern Section – North Side: 255 meter long from (53.46984, 9.96960) to (53.46913, 9.97258). On the north side, you can see works by advanced writers and kings. [ >>> Chronological Spot Page <<< }

(4) Flood Protection Wall – Eastern Section – South Side: 255 meter long from (53.46984, 9.96960) to (53.46913, 9.97258). The south side can be divided into (a) the arched area from (53.46984, 9.96960) to (53.46946, 9.97085), where advanced writers and some kings work; (b) an elongated wall from (53.46946, 9.97085) to (53.46894, 9.97211), which is probably withheld from Kings with their masterpieces; (c) a dyke section from (53.46894, 9.97211) to (53.46914, 9.97258), which lies qualitatively between (4a) and (3). The wall parts (3) and (4) together form the actual “Heimfeld-Hall” – probably the largest legal and most significant hall in northern Germany; hosted by “GrossstadtRaum e.V.”. How to get there and advices for visitors
![]()
Friends of public transport take the S-Bahn to the “Heimfeld” station, then walk down “Nobléestraße” for about 5 minutes and start their visit at the western part of the locality on Moorburger Straße (Location 1). Then stay on the north side and after about 230 m along the earth embankment, you will reach the north wall of the Heimfeld Hall (Location 3). Once you have enjoyed the pieces there, head back to the beginning of the concrete wall, as the path unfortunately ends in a dead end. After crossing the “grass dike,” you will reach the south side with its magnificent pieces and styles (Location 4). To comfortably view all three main walls, you should plan on spending about 70 to 90 minutes. Photography enthusiasts take note: good pictures can be taken either when the sky is overcast or at midday when the sun is at its highest. Trees, cables, and the geometric features of the dyke wall cast annoying shadows that cannot be removed even with the best image editing software. Once you have seen everything and can close your jaw again after marveling at the fantastic pieces, we recommend walking across the railroad crossing at the end of Lauenbrucher Straße to the Grumbrechtstraße stop for bus lines 141 and 241. Take one of these buses three stops to the “Harburg Rathaus” station, then hop back on the S-Bahn and head into Hamburg city center, where especially the Schanzenviertel and Karolinenviertel neighborhoods will make the heart of any streetart lover skip a beat. – Irxnschmoiz
