This artwork titled „Marx“ was created in a collaboration between French artists BAPTISTE DEBOMBOURG and DAVID MARIN. It shows a gold-plated plastic bag and the title with the German philosopher and Critic of capitalism clearly points to the artists‘ criticism of the current consumer society. The work consists of an ordinary plastic bag, but complete with Gold leaf covered. In contrast, it shows the cheap plastic as The epitome of consumerist, inexpensive and fast-moving mass production and gold as a symbol of wealth and stability. Not to forget that plastic is made from petroleum, the “black gold”. The work was created in 2017 for the 4th Urban Art Biennale and will now be exhibited again at the festival in 2024. DAVID MARIN was born in 1973 and lives and works in Annexy in France.
