The district, or more precisely the “township” of Maboneng, was a run-down area of the city for many decades, but recently a lot of artists and galleries have settled down, also alternative bars and clubs opened and unconventional art projects are happening. The neighborhood has gentrified from a ghetto district to an attractive place where interesting urban art gets created.
