The district, or more precisely the “township” of Maboneng, was a run-down area of the city for many decades, but recently a lot of artists and galleries have settled down, also alternative bars and clubs opened and unconventional art projects are happening. The neighborhood has gentrified from a ghetto district to an attractive place where interesting urban art gets created. It is currently still very much in development and the artists are busy painting. So check it out while it’s still like this.
