From 13th April till 4th September 2025 the local culture and art society BÜRGERSTIFTUNG KUNST FÜR GÜGLINGEN organized an exhibition titled „Lasst Blumen sprechen – Pfaus Hoffnung“ with beautiful works from the artist group BMP. Translated into English it means „Let Flowers speak – Peacock’s Hope“. The vernissage was opened by the first chair of the society and architect PETRA SUCHANEK-HEINRICH, followed by an introductory speech by LEONORE WELZIN from the artistic advisory board.
The artist group BMP consists of DETLEF BRÄUER, KARL MAY and ULI PETER and has been exploring the perception of space since its founding in 1991. Specific spatial situations on streets and squares, in rooms and halls, are transformed through installations. To redesign the spaces, BMP works with simple, mostly variable elements. Playing with the arrangement of these elements leads to constantly changing situations and possibilities for perception. In the search for new spatial structures, visitors become participants.
Accordingly, in 2017, a momentous installation for BMP was created in the exhibition space of the Zigarre art and culture workshop in Heilbronn: hundreds of interlocking pieces of corrugated cardboard grow into easily modifiable, expansive sculptures. The principle of these individual components, assembled without any additional tools, is the birth of plug-in furniture, with which BMP integrates design into art, and art into design. Or, to put it bluntly: art stuck into design – design stuck into art. Since then, the BMP-GESTALTUNG workshop has produced a wide variety of furniture that are incredibly easy to put together, without connecting elements, tools, or assembly instructions.
The reduction to the essentials, the simplicity of the individual parts, the legibility of the function – these are the factors that already apply to the elements of the art installations. BMP-GESTALTUNG can build on its experience in working with them, also because one idea always inspires the next. – BMP
