Exhibition: „soft power“ – ANNIKA WINKELMANN

From 9th March till 27th April art interested people could admire the exhibition „soft power“ with installations, art objects and photographs by ANNIKA WINKELMANN in the MUSEUM ALTES RATHAUS. The exhibitions at this art space are organized and curated as part of the project KUNSTMARKT LEINGARTEN by the HEIMATVEREIN LEINGARTEN, which is the local history society.

ANNIKA WINKELMANN, born in 1983, is a successful freelance artist whose works have been shown in numerous exhibitions since 2004. Born in Heilbronn and a member of the Künstlerhaus Zigarre in her home town since 2010, she studied theater and media studies at the Friedrich Alexander University in Erlangen and graduated from the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design (majoring in sculpture).

In her mostly conceptual work, the artist deals with processes of perception and levels of meaning. In her installations and objects, she explores the interplay between viewer and viewer and points to the necessity of an experience. In her independent photographic work, the boundaries between analog and digital blur, showing the viewer analog, almost painterly views on the one hand and spontaneous snapshots taken with a cell phone camera or Polaroid on the other.

ANNIKA WINKELMANN’s works, which the director of the Heilbronn Art Association, Dr. Matthia Löbke, describes as „still lifes of the now of our world“, are created in a variety of ways from personal experience. In the world of (art) image production, the cell phone also has a firm place in her work today. The Heilbronn native likes to use this uncomplicated method to take photos. – Heimatverein Leingarten

„Europium“

Europium(III) oxide, REE EU63, Rare Earth Element. This rare earth metal has the property of fluorescing. It glows in long-wave UV light. Europium(III) oxide is used in plasma screens, fluorescent tubes and in the security threads of banknotes, among other things. The increasing demand for europium suggests that demand will exceed supply in the medium term and that there will be a shortage. The state of approved narcotization and the fragile freedom of Europe are juxtaposed here with consumption and finite drugs as a symbol. The work „Europium“ was created for the European elections in May 2019 and was shown for the first time on the election weekend in Leipzig.
