Salt production in Bentlage can boast of almost a thousand years of history, with the first documentary mention dating back to 1022. Operations were discontinued in 1953 and the brine bath was finally closed in 1975. In the meantime, the area has been converted into a museum and historical cultural site that interested people can visit. Here we have the sculpture „Der Salzsieder“ (= The Salt Boiler) made by WERNER BRUNING. More photos can be found on the pages for the great mural „Die Salzarbeiter“ (=The Salt Workers) made by the artist duo MANNSTEIN VILL, the Gradierwerk (=Grading House), the Salzsiedehaus (=Salt Boiling House), the Schausiedepfanne (=Show Boiling Pan) and the Dreigiebelhaus (=Three Gabled House), which also functions as the visitors information center.
Der Salzsieder – The Salt Boiler – WERNER BRUNING
The metal sculpture „Der Salzsieder“ or in English „The Salt Boiler“ is a gift from the culture association „Heimatverein Rheine 1877 e.V.“ to the citizens of the city of Rheine on the occasion of the 130th anniversary. The sculpture was created by the sculptor WERNER BRUNING in December 2007. The project was supported by the following sponsors: apetito AG, Dr. Manfred Laumann, OBI, Kulturstiftung der Stadtsparkasse Rheine, Stadtwerke Rheine, Brigitte and Paul Willens and Dr. Bernd Windhoff.
