Exhibition: Substrat. Malerei. – CAMERON TAUSCHKE
The exhibition “Substrat. Malerei.” by the artist CAMERON TAUSCHKE started with a vernissage on April 22nd of 2023 in the in the NORDHEIMER SCHEUNE, the exhibition ran until June 3rd of 2023.
Curator HELMUT ALBERT MÜLLER about the exhibition: The thought process and the production of Cameron Tauschke’s artworks deal with the layers that lie beneath each other – the substrates. This is the work on the foundation of his artistic ideas and technique.
He was born in Melbourne and lives in Berlin. As an Australian artist, he is aware that he literally has to skip continents if he wants to capture and understand German culture and its dynamics. At the same time, it is important to him to keep an eye on his homeland and to ask what memories he has of it.
It is normal for him to compare Germany and Australia and consider how Germany influences his understanding of home. He thinks distance gives him exciting discoveries. In some of his paintings, bells and beating hearts stand for presence, creative energy, death and immortality, but at the same time for freedom. The bell symbolizes the human heart and the tower the body.
As a painter, he is interested in the fact that he can sharpen the immediacy of his pictorial language by manipulating color and exploring monochrome tones. For him, the most exciting part of painting is the application of oil paints, inks and gouaches.
He likes the challenge of using minimalist colors; it allows him to explore the spectrum and range of a color. His pictorial focus is on capturing the balance of contrasts. By this he means lines placed next to organic forms or gesture-like brushstrokes next to precise markings. The energy and aura of his visual language builds on these formal contrasts. – Curator Helmut Albert Müller
