GERMANY: Architecture Dortmund – Lanstrop – Rote Fuhr 70 – Lanstroper Ei

The Lanstrop Egg is a water tower with a steel K-frame structure and a steel tank. It has been in use as a water tower without a tank and is out of service since 1981. The Dortmund steel construction company Aug. Klönne built the water tower between 1904 and 1905 for the gas and waterworks of the city of Unna. Due to the high water consumption of the surrounding mines, the water supply could no longer be guaranteed without such an elevated tank. This tower still stands today, visible from afar, on a hill south of the A2 motorway in northeast Dortmund, near the Lanstrop district. In September 1997, a support association was founded to strive for the preservation of this historic cultural monument. After almost 15 years of renovation, the work was completed in September 2025. A presentation took place on September 14th, the Day of the Open Monument.
