GERMANY: Architecture Dortmund – Dorstfeld – Friedrich Henkel Weg 1 – DASA Museum

Covering 13,000 square meters of exhibition space, the DASA Working World Exhibition in Dortmund presents working worlds of yesterday, today, and tomorrow. It is the permanent educational facility of the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and informs the public about the world of work, its significance for individuals and society, and the importance of designing work in a way that is humane. The abbreviation DASA stands for “Deutsche Arbeitsschutzausstellung”, which would mean in English „German Occupational Safety Exhibition“.

The concepts of people, work, and technology define DASA’s “playing field”: people shape technology and the world of work, while technology and work have an impact on people. The DASA World of Work exhibition shows and interprets the relationships between these three factors in ever-changing ways. The primary focus is on the question of safeguarding core human values in the world of work, such as health and dignity. DASA focuses on people and their physical, emotional, social, and cultural needs. It sees itself as a place of education offering many practical and surprising insights into the world of work, with a wealth of exhibits, experimental stations, and multimedia elements depicting scenarios from the world of work. The exhibition concept focuses on sensory experiences and personal discovery rather than moralizing. DASA is a place for discovery, reflection, and inquiry.

One of the special features of DASA is the internationally acclaimed design of the exhibition rooms. The wall design, lighting, and colors have been conceived by the exhibition designers to match the respective content. This clarifies and emphasizes contexts and messages. The exhibition presents twelve exhibition units in this way, integrating technical objects into artistic scenography and multimedia experiences. In this way, it conveys the themes of the world of work in an exciting and lasting way. The audience thus experiences first-hand what solutions there are for a better working world.  –  DASA
