Haus der Fußballkulturen  –  House of Football Cultures

The “Haus der Fußballkulturen” or in English the “House of Football Cultures” is a fan project of the Sportjugend Berlin, the sport youth society. Founded in 1990, the project has been working with young football fans of both sexes and between the ages of 15 and 27 from the major Berlin clubs Hertha BSC, 1.FC Union, BFC Dynamo and Tennis Borussia. What is special about this is the support provided to fans of clubs with very different histories and fan cultures.

This diversity should be brought together in a house of football cultures. On a total area of around 300 square meters, young people and other football enthusiasts have the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with like-minded people. An extensive media library on the topics of fan culture, football and youth will then quench any thirst for knowledge.

The event room can be designed flexibly and can be used for celebrations as well as panel discussions, film evenings, football broadcasts or leisure-time educational offers. Seminar and counseling rooms for young people as well as the offices of the employees complete the house. The seminar rooms in particular are to be given special importance by the learning center project. In the field of football and education, the fascination of football should be used to impart knowledge to disadvantaged young people under the motto “learning in unusual places”. In this way, learning is given a positive cast and meaning.

Centrally located in the young heart of Berlin in the Prenzlauer Berg district. Perfect transport links via the U-2, Eberswalder Str. station and the S-Ringbahn, Schönhauser Allee station. Due to the sports-historical importance of the location Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark (former venue of the BFC Dynamo and venue of cup games and the cup final in Berlin amateur football) there is a cross-club awareness among the target group. The Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark complex provides a perfect infrastructure for sports-oriented youth social work.

The previous situation: The fan project was decentralized in the Sportforum Hohenschönhausen. There it only maintained offices with a size of 40 square meters. The fan rooms in the so-called fan barracks burned down in January 2007 and could not be rebuilt at the same location.

The construction project at a glance: The implementation was carried out by an inter-company training provider for socially disadvantaged young people. In addition, the young people from the fan project were integrated into the construction project with their own contributions. A wooden pavilion was built. The client is the supporter of the fan project, the Sportjugend im Landessportbund Berlin e.V..

The house was planned and designed by architect Dipl.-Ing. Gottfried Richter. The total realization costs were around  500,000.00 euros. The funding was provided by the Senate Department for Education, Science and Research, as well from sponsors and own contributions.  –  Haus der Fußballkulturen
