Who are we –  Nachbarschaftshaus Wannseebahn e.V.

An initiative of the residents of the housing estate in Berlin Steglitz-Zehlendorf for a lively, social and ecological urban culture. The association sees itself as a forum for people who, regardless of age and political or religious affiliation, want to shape life in their district and district with cultural and social offers and targeted initiatives.

The association was founded in 1994. From 1995, the neighborhood house with the „student club“ became the contact point for many children and young people. In 2000, the „Atrium School Station“ was added to the Mühlenau elementary school. In 2005 we took over responsibility for the after-school care center at the Mühlenau elementary school.

Since 2008 our „MoWo“ has been on the road for young people, from 2011 the „Bauwagen“ became a contact point for young people and since the end of 2014 there has been „OTiS“ a cooperation project with the JFE Schottenburg. In 2016, the neighborhood house took over the sponsorship of the children and youth office in Steglitz-Zehlendorf and since last year we have been offering the ZOOM! further offers of mobile youth social work in Steglitz-Zehlendorf.

The association is affiliated with the umbrella organization of Berlin neighborhood homes, the association for socio-cultural work. The regular activities of the association include courses such as yoga, dance courses and computer courses. In addition, there is a regular neighborhood café on Friday afternoons and events such as summer festivals, travelogues and flea markets. In addition to the permanent offers, the building is used for residents‘ and tenants‘ meetings, initiative groups and association committees.

On the weekends, the neighborhood house is available for private parties – only until 10 p.m. out of consideration for the residents. We offer young people between the ages of 16 and 26 the opportunity to do a voluntary ecological year (FÖJ). For more information, please contact them or the Berlin Nature Conservation Foundation. The association is a member of the „Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband Berlin“ and actively involved in the round table in Zehlendorf-Mitte.  –  Nachbarschaftshaus Wannseebahn e.V.
